I have not read the book. So I don't have any point of comparison which one is better. So I'm just reviewing it like I would a typical movie that I had watched.
The story is somewhat a typical teenage love story. Girl meets boy...boy want to eat girl but at the same time boy fell in love with girl and vice versa...boy in torment to either stay away or not in fear that he might really eat girl. In the end, boy decides to be with girl and try to keep his hunger in check. Like I said, a typical teenage love story...somewhat...
First off the characters. They did a good job. I love the way they were acting and the chemistry of the two leads were really shown on screen. Robert Pattinson did gave the feel of a vampire torn trying to hold on to his thirst and protecting the mortal woman he loves. Kristen Stewart was also good. You can see the emotions in her eyes while she acts...a rarity in young actors these days.
The setting is fantastic. The scenery is really nice and so green. Its an ideal place for vampires to live.
But there is something off with the dialogue. I'm sure it was taken from the book but the delivery is nice for all the actors but there is something in the lines itself that's a little off...I can't put my finger on it though.
Though the effects like the make up and the CGs need to be improved. The vampires make-up that made them pale wasn't right. Some parts of their face are paler than the other part and some parts of their bodies weren't pale at all that can be clearly seen on camera. So Edward looked like he was wearing too much foundation in his face making him look gay rather than the gorgeous vampire that he was suppose to be. And they didn't clean up the wires in editing very well that I saw glimpses of the wires every so often that it took away the awe factor of them leaping from tree to tree.
So, the movie was okay to me. I wasn't wowed...I didn't hate it. It was just okay. Though I could say that teens who watched the movie liked it alot judging from the screams that they did when Edward Cullen first showed up on screen.
