A Walkable City??? I think not...

This is actually a shock to me. I had always thought that Global City is doing its best to make a city that's not only environment friendly but a city that "walkable" as well. I guess I was wrong.

I had worked in the Fort area when I was working for Mobius and I was walking around the city most of the time to go from one place to another. It's actually a shock to me to find out that it's not really walkable friendly. When I was working there, I really didn't pay attention to the lack of sidewalks mostly because when I was working there, the place is being developed. I thought before that it was going to be a good city since they were incorporating parks, making the place a greener city compared to the busy Makati business sector that's all gray and few green. And I thought, with parks means that it would be a place where people would go for walks and just stop and smell the flowers. A place where people would enjoy nature. Well, I guess I was wrong.

Based on the youtube video shown above, the place is being developed into another Makati with more gray than green once more. It's sad to think that it's going to become a place where there are parks to walk your pets but you won't really be able to do so because the place will not be good for walking. No sidewalks, people who are disabled wouldn't really be taken care of.

This experiment has opened my eyes that the ramps for the disabled being created in malls and public places are just there to make people think that the place is "disabled-friendly" when in reality it won't really help a disabled person...well it might but the disabled wouldn't really be taken care of properly.

I just hope that Global City is still in its development stage that it would be easier to fix this mistake. Bonifacio High Street would really be a nice place for the elderly and families to relax and have fun at the same time.

I fear the day Global City is completely turned industrial. :( I miss the parks there. High Street is not fun to walk around in, too many people.
