Transformers 2

(Spoiler Alert)

Honestly, it was disappointing. The whole storyline was confusing and the new robots and characters were annoying.

The story takes place, I think a year after the first movie. The Autobots together with the US military have been hunting down what's left of the Deceptecons in the planet and killing them off one at a time. On the other hand, Sam is off to college.

Things start getting crazy when the piece of the cube zapped Sam, causing him to see things in his mind. A new person in the military is giving orders and is mad at the Autobots for destroying Shanghai. And Optimus Prime is killed by Megatron while saving Sam from being taken.

They killed Optimus Prime by stabbing him. To resurrect him, he has to be stabbed again by a funky looking object that's supposed to be the Matrix of leadership that isn't even something a leader passes on to his successor but a key to a machine that destroys suns to gain energon. While this is all within the line of the original Transformers series (the introduction to the Matrix of leadership that is), the way they executed the whole movie made it look like it doesn't have any directions whatsoever. In the end, the Matrix that turned into dust when they found it, magically reconstructed itself, gave Optimus his life back but barely since the transfer I think was not complete when Fallen forcefully yanked the Matrix out of him and renewed the partnership between man and bot. Like I said, confusing.

The characters, especially the new ones were really annoying. I don't know the reason why they were there in the first place. Megan Fox, who was already a forgettable character in the first movie was still forgettable here. I'm guessing that the only reason she's tehre is to keep the male population interested in watching...though I don't really see the point since the movie is mainly about huge alien robots destroying each other (perfect recipe for the usual adrenalin pumping movie guys would love). and what's with the room mate? I'm so annoyed with him that I don't really want to check IMDB to know who he is. All throughout the movie, I was wishing they'd kill him off...but then thought better of it since if they kill him, he'd just become a hero...an annoying hero but a hero nonetheless. The same goes with the new twin robots who were I think a mixed breed of Mexican and Chinese from the way they speak. They fight each other more than fighting agains Deceptecons and they were most likely to be killed off rather than the Arcee (the motorcycles) but sigh again...they lived.

And then there was Devastator. Honestly, he was the main reason I wanted to watch this movie. I want to know how he will kick ass against the Autobots. In the animated series, when the Constructacons becomes Devastator, they are unmatched by the Autobots except when the Dinobots are there or the big robot that the Airialbots becomes (I forgot his name). But in this movie, they were thwarth by none other than the annoying twin robots. Sigh...so much for Devastator...I was devastated in the end.

And during the movie, I was so confused who were the Autobots and who were the Deceptecons because they all look the same to me save for Optimus and Bumblebee. They should have either made their logos visible or they have a different design for the two factions.

It's only saving grace that garnered it with two tumbling babies is the fight scenes. It was heart-stopping and action packed that it made the confusion of the whole story line somewhat bearable.

But all in all, a disappointing movie. It may be because I had high expectation since it is after all Transformers. They should either stop making Transformers or try to make a new one that would make you forget this one.
